Doting on the ‘wise’

She walked the path of life alone,
battling the labyrinth of societal norms.
Her beauty was indeed unparalleled;
exceptionally unique, she was not made to fit in
She had blemishes on her skin,
as if embroidered to perfection.
Her skin color was deep,
like her thirst for acceptance,
Her marks told a story unlike any other ever told
It was a symphony of notes never sung before
To her awe she celebrated the difference
Owing to the fact that her body was not going to be a hindrance
She worked and put on a great fight,
Her looks became the problem even though her talents out-shined
They told her she was ugly
That for her dreams she was not worthy
To those sickening hearts she starred in the eyes
She shot a beautiful smile and humbly replied
“In the beholder’s eyes does beauty lie,
Those who are impaired have to deny
Beauty is undefined and just another attribute
There is more to a person than simply their looks
You should know behind the facade does pure talent reside
Clearly you don't, after all, not all ‘wise men’ are truly wise.”
